The Fractional CMO Who Wrote the Book on Staying Lean
“Your team does not have to be your payroll. It does not have to be a loose collection of hired strangers. There is a third option: a deliberate, trust-based network of peers that gives you the strength of a team and the freedom of independence. Both at the same time.”

Most marketing leaders spend their careers trying to get bigger. Valter Klug, Fractional CMO, spent a decade proving the opposite can be the stronger play, and then wrote the book on it.
For ten years, Valter ran Samba Rock, a lean, award-winning boutique that pulled in specialists per project rather than carrying them on payroll. It was a single-member version of the Collective model before he had a name for it. The work was good and the clients were real. But growth has a way of seducing smart founders: the bigger client arrives, you hire to service it, and the overhead starts running ahead of the revenue instead of alongside it. When AI reshaped the market and a debt position taken on to fund growth became an anchor, Valter didn't patch the model. He shed the weight and rebuilt something leaner, smarter, and structurally more durable. That transition, from solo-principal boutique to a collective of senior peers, is the spine of Too Small To Fall, and the reason he landed at Chameleon.
Born in Brazil, shaped by two years in London, and based in Miami since 2009, Valter works trilingually across Portuguese, English, and Spanish, and he has built his career on the runway between Latin America and the U.S. He created the global brand positioning for AB-InBev's Guaraná Antarctica, now deployed worldwide. He spent ten years building the U.S. category for Bauducco Panettone, work that helped drive the brand to open new U.S. manufacturing facilities. He developed PepsiCo's KeroCoco "True at the Core" social framework, and took A Tal da Castanha, Brazil's number-one plant-based milk, into the U.S. to a top-five Amazon ranking within 90 days. When Inter&Co needed to understand the American market, Valter helped define its entry strategy ahead of its NASDAQ IPO.
Valter is one of the few who can direct the creative and run the analytics. He won two Cannes Lions as an art director in 2005, for brand creative on Reckitt Benckiser and Nokia at Euro RSCG. He led AT&T's U.S. Hispanic digital and social strategy at Young & Rubicam, the agency's largest account, at roughly 40% of annual revenue, with a 35-person team under him. He spent six years at SapientNitro across the London and Miami offices, shaping social for Coca-Cola's portfolio and Sony PlayStation. Today that same instinct for "big ideas at the intersection of emerging technology" shows up as AI woven through every stage of the strategy, from audience segmentation to performance.
Valter doesn't just belong to the Collective. He can tell you exactly why it works. He describes his move to Chameleon not as a retreat or a reinvention but as a structural upgrade: from a solo practice with a strong network to a collective of senior peers with shared infrastructure, shared credibility, and the kind of horizontal depth at the top that makes larger clients comfortable committing to bigger work. The client gets boutique economics without boutique risk. The costs stay lean; the credibility does not. It's a thesis he lives out daily, currently as Fractional CMO for Mineral S.A. and interim U.S. marketing consultant for Guaraná Antarctica.
Valter was experimenting with AR in 2019 and launched AI tools in 2024, and his newest venture, Soundcheck Insights, is the natural extension: an AI-powered market-intelligence platform built to give brands faster, sharper answers about new markets. He calls it the systemization of the same "Ideas + Innovation" method he has practiced for 28 years. For brands weighing a market entry, it's the strategic vision and the technological edge in one seat.
