The Challenge
Great Hearts, a network of public charter schools, sought to ensure all their academy websites were compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This crucial task aimed to guarantee digital accessibility for all users, yet, it posed a significant challenge due to the scale, with over 30 different academy sites. The central task was to review, update, and maintain these websites to meet ADA compliance standards.
Our Approach
Chameleon Collective engaged a WordPress Developer and ADA expert to join the Great Hearts team. This professional brought a systematic and strategic approach, tackling two websites per week to align with Great Hearts' desired schedule. The process involved utilizing multiple tools and conducting manual checks to identify, rectify, and validate any compliance issues. A schedule was created to ensure the efficient organization and timely completion of the compliance tasks.
The Impact
During the engagement, over 30+ websites were brought up to ADA compliance, passing multiple manual and automated validation checks. The ADA expert continues to work diligently maintaining ADA compliance of the sites, fostering collaboration with the Great Hearts team throughout the process. As this project progresses, Great Hearts is steadily realizing its mission of promoting an inclusive and accessible digital educational environment.
