The Challenge
Fi, maker of GPS-enabled smart dog collars, had a media offering, Off the Leash, that had lost its identity, overtaken by the marketing needs of Fi's core collar business. Leadership wanted a distinct media brand that resonated authentically with Fi's customers without overt ties to its direct-to-consumer efforts.
Our Approach
Chameleon Collective ran an immersive content development process. We studied Fi's customers, their concerns, interests, and what drove engagement, and analyzed the dog-owner media landscape to find gaps. That pointed to an untapped niche: service content that elevates pets and their owners, opposite the condescending tone common in pet media. We built an audience plan, secured the available PupRight.com as the platform, stood up a Squarespace site with Mailchimp for newsletters, designed a content model using AI, influencers, and a dedicated content manager, and helped Fi scout potential General Managers.
The Impact
Fi's leadership ultimately chose to prioritize other investments, and the project was not launched. Even so, the work demonstrated Chameleon Collective's ability to ideate, strategize, and ready a distinct media brand, with projections estimating break-even by the second year even under an ad-only model.
