Chameleon Collective · Open role
Chameleon Collective is a business transformation firm operating across three primary pillars: Lead (Fractional/Interim leadership), Deliver (specialized execution teams), and Recruit (executive search). Built on a collective model of 280+ senior independent operators, we eliminate traditional agency overhead by embedding veteran leaders directly into client businesses to drive growth and solve complex challenges.
The Director of Operations is the hands-on operational engine of Chameleon Collective. Reporting directly to the CEO—and working as a peer alongside the Directors of Sales Operations, Marketing, and Finance—this leader focuses purely on execution and "getting things done." Our internal team that supports this group of consultants and recruiters is approximately fifteen people with the Director of Operations having direct oversight over five people.
This role is responsible for building and maintaining the infrastructure that allows our decentralized network of independent operators to deliver exceptional work. From managing the rollout of proprietary tech tools to overseeing bench onboarding, the Director of Operations ensures the company runs reliably and efficiently. The ideal candidate comes from a professional services background and thrives in an environment where they can roll up their sleeves and build scalable systems.
1. Team Leadership & Development
Team Building: Hire, develop, and retain the operations team, including future operational roles, building a function that scales with the collective.
Coaching & Performance: Set clear goals and expectations, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, and create growth paths that develop people beyond their current scope.
Operational Leadership: Model the execution standard for the team, remove blockers, and make decisions that let direct reports own their work with confidence.
2. Operational Execution & Delivery Systems
Systems Architecture: Build, maintain, and execute the operational workflows, delivery frameworks, and playbooks that position operators for high-quality client delivery.
Internal SaaS Stack: Manage and optimize internal operational tools (CRM, resource management, internal communications) to drive workflow automation and eliminate administrative friction.
Departmental P&L: Manage the operational budget, tool spend, and resource allocation in close coordination with the Director of Finance.
3. Proprietary Tools & Technology Program Management
Tool Delivery & Rollout: Own the program management, user adoption, and operational rollout for Chameleon Collective’s proprietary technology assets.
Tech-Enabled Operations: Confidently manage technology projects, acting as the bridge between engineering/product efforts and the day-to-day operations of the collective.
4. Talent Bench Operations & Collective Health
Bench Lifecycle: Drive the operational execution for talent recruitment, vetting, onboarding, and offboarding across our network.
Ecosystem Engagement: Maintain the systems and communication channels that keep independent operators supported, informed, and actively participating in the collective.
5. Collective Support
Operator Support: Own the support function for the collective, managing the front door team and process for member questions, access issues, tool troubleshooting, and process navigation. Establish clear intake channels, response expectations, and resolution paths.
Support Systems & Enablement: Manage the documentation, help resources, and self-service infrastructure that scale support as the collective grows, reducing repeat questions and dependency on individual people.
Change Support: Serve as the operational support layer for every new tool, process, or program introduced to the collective, ensuring adoption is supported rather than announced.
6. Strategic Partnerships & External Liaisons
Solution Partners Program: Manage the third-party Solution Partners program, executing vendor relationships, referral workflows, and joint opportunities.
Legal Liaison: Act as the internal liaison to external legal counsel, overseeing contract template updates, operational compliance, and partner agreements.
Professional Services Background: 7–10 years of hands-on operations experience within professional services, management consulting, digital agencies, or tech-enabled services.
People Leadership: Demonstrated experience building and developing operations teams, with a track record of hiring well and growing people into larger roles.
Execution Focus: A "get-it-done" mentality with a proven track record of moving from strategy to tactical execution without needing heavy administrative support.
Program Management: Strong experience managing software/tool rollouts and leveraging technology to solve business problems.
Partner & Legal Coordination: Experience managing vendor partnerships and working alongside external legal counsel.
